We consulted with all our schools and the wider community on the books people would love to see in our Once Upon a Moving On parade. We’ve never had such a huge response – especially from the kids! Teachers said is was a very “hot topic” for debate. A shortlist was drawn up by a panel, based on a mix of old and new books from here and abroad, ranging across the primary school ages. Each book title was hidden inside a small paper boat and at a meeting with our lovely school reps, each school picked a boat at random and wrote on their name. The contents of our flotilla would be top secret until we went into the schools to disclose the shortlist and reveal which book each school had picked. The tension!
