Patina is a registered charity that promotes the arts in Lewes and surrounding areas. Our purpose is to foster a thriving artistic community by encouraging children’s involvement in the arts, supporting local artists and creating arts events throughout the year that bring benefit to the whole community.

Patina’s flagship activity is the Moving On Parade through Lewes each July, which celebrates local children’s transition from primary to secondary school. Workshops in carnival arts take place in schools across the area to create a stunning moving tide of sculptures, costumes and music through town – made by hundreds of children working with a team of local artists. Now in its nineteenth year, Moving On has become an important and much looked forward to part of the local cultural calendar, for the children who participate as well as for the wider community who come out each year to support and cheer the children through.

To achieve our goals, we help to network parents’ and teachers’ involvement in arts activities, coordinate artists, organise fundraising events throughout the year, arrange sponsorship, and communicate and engage with the wider community.

Patina is proud to be the official charity of Lewes FC for the 2020/2021 season.
